Sole Proprietership/Partnership type of business
Sole Proprietership/Partnership business is a business registered under the Registration of Business Act 1956 (Act 197).
A business that is specified in the Schedule of the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 (Act 197) (ROBA 1956) and Registration of Businesses Rules 1957 is a type of sole proprietorship and partnership business.

Business is owned by two (2) or more persons but not exceeding 20 persons
Additional RM5.00 a year for each branch registered and RM10.00 (excluding GST) for business information print-out.
- Using the correct language and spelling;
- Name must not be too general;
- Name must not resemble to the ones already registered or reserved;
- Names must not be disrespectful, blasphemous and confusing in terms of identity and objects;
- Does not perceive or symbolize religious elements;
- Must not use controlled words and restricted usage due to national or public interest;
- Does not use names that contain misleading words as an identity under the law or NGO / NPO;
- Does not use names related to the names of statutory bodies, government link companies or agencies;
- Use of symbols are allowed in a business name to only five (5) symbols and must be used appropriately i.e. and (&), full-stop (.), dash (-), in brackets () and apostrophe (');
- The use of numbers are allowed if used appropriately; and
- General principles set from time to time.
- Owner must be a Malaysian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Malaysia.
- Owner must be at the age of 18 years and above.
- Only owner / partner is allowed to make an application.
1. Business may be registered using personal name or a trade name.
- Using personal name as stated in the identity card is not required to apply for business name. Example: Ruslan bin Mohamed, Siow Ah Thai or, Ramasamy a/l Mutusamy
- Trade Name is the name of the proposed business and must obtain prior approval from SSM. Example: Kedai Dobi Mewah, Lucky Star Catering or, ABS Unggul Enterprise.
2. Complete the Business Registration Form (Form A) with the following information:
- Business name;
- Commencement date of business;
- Business principal address;
- Business branch address (if any);
- Owner and partners information;
- The type of business carried out; and
- Provide a copy of the Partnership Agreement (if any).
3. Every business owner and partners must fill in and sign the completed Form.
4. Owner / all partners must be present for registration.
5. Documents to be attached are as follows:
- Permit, licence or supporting letter for the type of business e.g Nurseries (Department of Social Welfare), Kindergarten, Tuition Centres, Schools/College (Ministry/ Department of Education); and/or
- Approval or Supporting Letter from relevant agency if required by the Registrar of Business
6. Business registration can also be done through online at ezbiz.ssm.com.my
- Business has been conducted and registration must not be later than 30 days from the commencement date of the business.
- A new business registration is valid for a period of one (1) year and not exceeding five (5) years of each registration.
- The nature of the registered business should not contravene any laws or likely to be used for unlawful purposes or any purpose prejudicial to or incompatible with the security of the Federation, public order or morality.
- Business Registration Certificate can be obtained within one (1) hour from the time payment is made.
- A person who carries on business without registering a business commits an offence under the ROBA 1956 and if found guilty be liable to a fine not exceeding RM50,000.00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two (2) years or both.
- The owner of the business is responsible to obtain licences, permits or approval letters from other relevant authorities even though the business has been registered with SSM.
